Arizona’s history of the LGBT+ community begins long before Arizona was a state with the Native American belief of two-spirits and continuing on through to the seismic shift of Civil Union/Marriage Equality.
There are some surprises along the way as we talk about Arizona connections to artists like, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and those muscle magazines by George Quaintance. Where was the Trans Flag created and where is it now? There is also the little known story of a 1906 Russian gender pioneer named Nicolai De Raylan.
Marshall Shore was recently nominated for an Emmy award for sharing Arizona history as Arizona’s Hipstorian.
This program is made possible by Arizona Humanities. Arizona Humanities builds a just and civil society by creating opportunities to explore our shared human experiences through discussion, learning and reflection.
