Downtown Mesa Association / Marketing and Communications Specialist

Schedule: In Office Mon-Fri; some evenings and weekends required


If monotony is your nemesis, you might be a good fit for the Marketing & Events team! Between social media management, graphic design, website management, developing marketing strategies, and assisting with event development and implementation, no two days are ever the same!
This position has a broader scope than a typical marketing position; rather than promoting a single product or company, the DMA represents all of Downtown Mesa: restaurants, retail, museums, events, and more! The work of the DMA varies greatly from week to week and season to season.

Primary Job Responsibilities
• Be knowledgeable about the DMA’s vision, goals and purpose, and apply this understanding to all output
• This role requires a proactive, organized, and versatile individual with a passion for creating high-quality content tailored to specific audience needs and platform best practices
• Take a strategic approach to social media, bring fresh ideas, and execute from start to finish to keep Downtown Mesa relevant to our audience.
• Create and implement the DMA’s marketing program

Roles & Responsibilities
Social Media & Graphic Design
• Develop engaging content for social media, email campaigns, websites, and other marketing channels. This includes capturing & editing photos and video, writing compelling print, creating visual assets, etc.
• Develop and execute social media strategies to increase brand visibility. Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging social media trends
• Create elevated, original graphics for digital and print use for all events and promotions, maintaining brand cohesion
• Use Google Analytics and social media data to generate reports on key metrics and use these KPIs to direct future campaigns and strategy.
• Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely manner to maintain positive relationships with the public and downtown businesses

Marketing & Branding
• Create and implement a Marketing & Communications plan for the DMA, ensuring brand consistency across all DMA communications
• Support the development of collateral, including Annual Reports, Development Updates and help create PowerPoint presentations
• Photograph and capture video at DMA events and downtown businesses for use on website and social media; maintain an organized image library

Public Communications
• Update and manage the DMA website
• Create an engaging monthly public e-newsletter (Mailchimp)
• Expand on the current list of community-based contacts, social media influencers, and other sources to widely distribute information and updates
• Work collaboratively with our PR agency to increase visibility of Downtown Mesa, Events, Promotions, and other relevant stories

Events
• Collaborate with Events Manager to create a Marketing Plan and collateral for each DMA event and promotion
• Available to work occasional evenings and weekends at events throughout the year

Qualifications
• Minimum of an Associate Degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in creating content, managing social media accounts, and marketing strategy
• Strong understanding of marketing principles, strategies, and techniques
• Should have a great attitude and a desire to work as a team player, while also able to work independently and with limited supervision at times
• Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (preferred) and/or Canva
• Familiarity with MailChimp or other similar email marketing tools
• Strong knowledge of SEO principles and best practices for content optimization
• Ability to develop collaborative and diverse relationships
• Strong writing and excellent communication skills
• Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities

About the DMA:
Downtown Mesa Association (DMA) was created to promote and market Downtown Mesa, to provide for safety and cleanliness standards and improvements, to serve as a catalyst for business development, to provide a voice for Downtown interests and to position landowners and business owners in the district for optimum return on their investment.

Salary Range: Starting at $50,000 (DOE)
