FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 1, 2020 (Mesa, AZ) – Two family-friendly museums in Downtown Mesa will offer free admission from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Friday December 10. This special event is during the Merry Main Street activities. Participating museums are Arizona Museum of Natural History and the i.d.e.a. Museum.

The evening event is part of the City of Mesa’s Museum Discovery events on select days or evenings by City of Mesa cultural institutions. These free events are aimed at making science, art and hands-on activities accessible to families of all economic backgrounds.

The Arizona Museum of Natural History has dinosaurs that roar and so much more. Visitors can take a selfie with a dinosaur, try their hand at gold panning or wander through an ancient village of the ancestral Sonoran Desert dwellers. See our 2 latest exhibitions: 75,000,000 BC, which walks visitors through southern Arizona 75 million years ago. Learn about the giant volcanoes that shaped the economy of our state and the dinosaurs that lived in their shadow. Ologies!: The Science of Anthropology and Paleontology introduces visitors to the museum’s anthropology and paleontology research departments.

At the i.d.e.a. Museum, guests get to experience unique hands-on art exhibitions and engaging STEAM programs. The current featured exhibition is Robo Art: This exhibition inspires creative thinking while exploring the design, engineering and technology of robotics. Kids of all ages can build their own 3D robot, learn the basics of coding, discover a variety of robot themed creations from around the world, explore the history of robotics and more!

Free days are very popular and attract crowds. Should there be wait time for entry, visitors are encouraged to check out holiday-themed activities taking place at Merry Main Street. Enjoy Jack Frost’s Food Truck Forrest, Winter Wonderland Ice Rink, Mesa Polar Express and visits with Santa!
Please note: AZMNH and the i.d.e.a. Museum believe that arts and cultural experiences should be accessible for all families. Beyond free admission events, as participants in the Museums for All initiative, families experiencing financial hardship who present their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card qualify for a $2 admission per person (up to 6 people) and may visit both museums during business hours that are convenient for their families.

Regular admission at AZMNH is $7 for children ages 3-12 and $13 for adults; museum members are free. At the i.d.e.a. Museum, regular admission is $9 for everyone ages 1 and up; museum members are free.
