Makeup artistry isn’t just about making people look good for the camera - it plays a vital role in character building and storytelling in film and television. Join The Sidney Poitier New American Film School and guest makeup artist Emily Katz, an award-winning professional and beauty industry thought leader, in conversation with Clinical Associate Professor Janaki Cedanna. Katz is an internationally recognized makeup artist with more than three decades’ experience with distinguished credits including “Lost,” “Big Fish,” “24,” “Saving Mr. Banks,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Wonder Woman 1984.” As a Makeup Department Head, she has led major productions, collaborated with celebrated actors and filmmakers, and helped shape the visual language of storytelling through makeup. Katz revisits some of her work on the hit ABC TV series “Lost” and shares her expertise designing makeup looks that play a pivotal role in storytelling. Cedanna has worked in film and television for more than 30 years across feature films, documentaries, commercials and television. He is currently working on “AcroFutures: The Struggle for Respect,” a documentary about Kenyan acrobats seeking recognition and sustainable careers.
