Academy Award-winning producer David Dinerstein kicks off The Sidney Poitier New American Film School’s Spring ‘26 Speaker Series with a Black History Month screening of his 2021 documentary “Summer of Soul” followed by a conversation about the film and an audience Q&A. The winner of the Oscar for best documentary feature, directed by the Roots drummer and co-frontman Questlove, “Summer of Soul” shines a spotlight on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, pulling out of obscurity this milestone musical event featuring Black artists including Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Sly and the Family Stone, among many others. Dinerstein is an accomplished media executive who served as President at Paramount Pictures and as a senior studio executive at 20th Century Fox. Dinerstein is the co-founder of Mass Distraction Media, an Academy Award winning company that collaborates with storytellers to produce premium non-fiction film and TV.
